MOORESVILLE, N.C.—Lowe’s announced that it will receive the Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award in Retail on March 18 in a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Lowe’s the recipient of the award due to the company’s outstanding achievements year after year in customer outreach, employee training and product selection, and for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its industry-leading commitment to energy efficiency. Since 2003, Lowe’s has netted eight consecutive awards, including four Energy Star Partner of the Year awards for their efforts in educating their clientele in energy efficiency.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Sears Holdings Corporation the 2010 ENERGY STAR® Retail Partner of the Year for its contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its initiatives focusing on educating customers about energy-efficient products. According to the EPA, Sears’ efforts also made it easier and more affordable for customers to obtain ENERGY STAR products. To read more about Sears’ green initiatives, click here.

DENVER—Colorado residents will soon have to pay sales tax on their online purchases, according to TheDenverChannel.com. The Internet Sales Act, which was signed into law by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter on Feb. 23, created a means of enforcing a tax law that already existed. The new law will require online retailers to notify their customers how much sales tax they owe during checkout and in a year-end statement. For more information on this story, click here.
